I was driving north toward the Mariah Pass on a small winding hwy 20 east of Omak in 1991 on an early July afternoon. I keep wondering about the sighting along the road. At about 50 mph driving north I saw a cinnamon colored hairy animal standing at the side of this small winding road. As I drove closer I noticed it was looking directly at me and then it ran across the road in front of me and stood on the other side looking at me again as I drove by.
At the time I thought it was a weird bear and though I've seen many, this one did not seem to be a normal bear, it did not at any time go on all four legs. I don't really remember its face but it was about 8 feet tall, and about 250 - 300 lbs. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
The part that is so intriguing is the way it stared me down as I approached, then after it ran across the road, it stood there and just stared me in the eye as I was driving by it.
Thanks for your interest in my sighting
of what may have been a rare opportunity
Thanks for your time,
