of Baltimore, Maryland Washington Post Potomac Magazine October 10, 1977 The Gordon Chaplin article refers to series of sightings near Whitemarsh in swamps around Bird River. Richard and Elva Stewart, the only ones specified, were cutting brush near a grove of trees when they heard branches breaking, smelled odor like swamp water and then saw something about eight feet tall with two red eyes as they ran away.
